Here is what you’ve been wanting to know about orthodontics for so long

YOUR QUESTIONS, OUR ANSWERS

How long will my treatment as an adult take? At what age should kids go see the orthodontist? How much of the fees is covered by insurance? There are so many questions about orthodontic treatment. Bimler & Schmidt heave all the answers. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we are confronted with.

When should my child first visit an orthodontist?

To find the perfect start for a possible treatment, your child should have its first orthodontic check-up during preschool or primary school. It can be assessed if a treatment might be necessary at all and if yes, when the next appointment should be.

What is the best age for my child to start a treatment?

Most of the orthodontic treatments start between 11 and 14 years. In some special cases a treatment is already necessary at the age of 3 years.

How long does it usually take until the treatment is finished?

At Bimler & Schmidt, fortunately, it doesn’t take too long. Usually the active part of the treatment can be completed after one year.

Does the treatment hurt?

Everybody feels differently. Changes in your oral cavity always need a period of settling-in. Intense or enduring pain is not to be expected during orthodontic treatment.

Do my teeth move back into their old position after the treatment?

Our teeth are always in movement. We, at Bimler & Schmidt, take appropriate measures to keep the treatment result stable for the rest of your life.

Does my insurance cover the costs?

It really depends on your insurance tariff. If it covers for the total amount of a bill or if orthodontic treatment is excluded. However, if you have questions prior or during the treatment do not hesitate to ask us. We will be happy to assist you.

Do the wisdom teeth necessarily have to be removed? Do they cause problems?

Unfortunately, more wisdom teeth than necessary will still be removed. Misalignments of teeth cannot be linked to the eruption of the wisdom teeth. Yet sometimes space conditions or the position of the wisdom teeth in the jaw can make a removal necessary; but this has to be checked individually.

Do invisible braces exist?

For every problem we can also offer a near invisible or invisible solution. Different types of braces always have advantages and disadvantages which we will discuss with you finding the perfect solution.

Can you be orthodontically treated when you play a wind instrument?

Absolutely! Maybe braces should not be placed one day before the most important concert of the year because you need a little bit to get used to the new situation. But after a while playing music is possible as before.

Do I have to go to my dentist during my treatment at the orthodontist?

The 6-monthly check-up appointment at your dental practice should definitively be kept, also during orthodontic treatment.
